Viviane Sassen, Belladona, 2010
Guy Tillim, Mame-Diarra Niang, Pieter Hugo, Robin Rhode, Viviane Sassen, Zanele Muholi
For the inaugural edition of Paris Photo New York, Stevenson presents works by Edson Chagas, Pieter Hugo, Zanele Muholi, Mame-Diarra Niang, Paulo Nazareth, Jo Ractliffe, Viviane Sassen and Guy Tillim. Spanning works made over the last two decades, with images that include documentary photography, fictional assemblages and classical portrait form, this presentation marks the shifts in discussions around the function and role of the medium in a rapidly moving climate. Underpinning this, is a look at the formative modes of these practitioners, counterbalanced with their new modes of making. The booth will feature both early and recent works from Hugo, Sassen and Ractliffe; self-portraits from Muholi; and images from Nazareth’s ‘Whiteness Ethnography’ series, presented in the States for the first time.
