For the Paris Photo in New York 2020, Galerie Bene Taschen proposes to present a curated selection of photographs by the New York photographers Larry Fink, Arlene Gottfried, Jeff Mermelstein, Joseph Rodriguez, Jamel Shabazz and the German photographer Miron Zownir. Fink, Gottfried, Mermelstein, Rodriguez and Shabazz were born and raised in Brooklyn, the show also includes works by the Berlin based Miron Zownir who has spent several years in New York. However, all of them investigate the city of New York as a prism of human experience, their documentary and stirring portrayals of New York's culture over the past forty years have won them places in some of the world's most notable collections. The works document the changes and renewals happened to the city as well as its diversity and energy. Especially the neglected urban spaces of the metropolis and the people living at the social periphery are focused on in the photographs showing an intimate and penetrating view of the insides.
