If selected to exhibit at Paris Photo New York, we plan to present the series of work, Desert Infrastructures: Mining and Exodus in the Atacama Desert (2015-2019) by the Chilean photographer, Marcos Zegers (1987). Zegers’ work is rooted in the documentary genre with a focus on geopolitical and territorial conflicts. Zegers’ topographical analysis and carefully constructed photographic images map out a disturbed landscape configured by human activity. Zegers’ work critically inquires into the extractive history from colonial Latin America to the present day. It reveals a fraught relationship between the region’s mining industry and the local communities and how the latter are left with no option but to migrate once the mining activities deprive them of their vital resource: water. In addition to the work of Marcos Zegers, we also plan to exhibit classical works by a group of other photographers' in our stable of artists.
