Our main project is to exhibit a selected ensemble of 10-15 vintage prints by Mario Giacomelli (1925-2000) taken between 1956 and his death. These prints, including some of his very early work, will be presented in chronological order with representative examples of most of his main series. Mario Giacomelli was a poet and a fervent reader of poetry, and many of his photographs or series have been inspired by poems, often reproduced on the verso of his prints. One of his sources of inspiration was the writings of Jorge Luis Borges. For this reason, we intend to also show a few original contemporary black and white prints from the series "The Secret Books" by Sean Kernan, also inspired by writings by Borges, and deep blacks. We will also present by Ryuijie to illustrate how a more nuanced scale of greys can convey a more peaceful vision of nature. Finally, several Moriyama prints will create a parallel with the work of Giacomelli in the search for deep blacks and strong contrast.
